Leaders of major Nigerian Diaspora organizations have announced that presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Comrade Omoyele Sowore, will take part in a Presidential Town Hall meeting, the third in the series.

The virtual Presidential Town Hall, featuring the 2023 Nigerian presidential candidate of the AAC, according to a statement by Hon. Gesiere Brisibe-Dorgu, Global Coordinator, Dr. Kelechi Lawrence, USA Coordinator, Dr. Antonia Garner, European Union Coordinator, Chief Emmanuel Ezekiel-Hart, Asia-Pacific Coordinator and Prof. Mondy Gold, Chief Development Officer, will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 5 PM New York (Eastern Standard Time), i.e. 10 PM Lagos/London time.

The program, the statement said, is a continuation of the Presidential Town Hall meetings between top candidates for the Nigerian presidency and the Nigerian Diaspora.

“We applaud Comrade Omoyele Sowore for choosing to participate in the Presidential Town Hall with the Global Nigerian Diaspora.

“Comrade Sowore is a former president of the University of Lagos students’ union, a social critic, a human rights crusader and the founder of the famous news organization, Sahara Reporters.

“Comrade Sowore has endeared himself to millions of Nigerians because of his doggedness in the fight for social justice and good governance,” the group said, stressing that they believe that if elected, “he will make a solid, no-nonsense, honest, and courageous president.

“Millions are also interested in finding out if he will free Nigeria and Nigerians from hopelessness, ethnically motivated discrimination and oppression, unrelenting insecurity, enduring poverty, excruciating agony, unprecedented corruption and involve the Global Nigerian Diaspora in governance.

“We are delighted that everyone in the Global Nigerian Diaspora community and friends of Nigeria who attend this townhall will get the chance to hear directly from Comrade Omoyele Sowore and ask any pertinent questions on his patriotism, democratic credentials, and vision for the Global Nigerian Diaspora.

“The Nigerian Diaspora calls for a more inclusive and cooperative administration as well as for Nigeria to have ethnic reconciliation as well as clean, safe and livable streets.

“As the leaders of the Global Nigerian Diaspora work assiduously to secure access to basic amenities and voting rights for millions of Nigerians living abroad, equity and justice serve as guiding principles. The incoming Nigerian president must, in the opinion of the Global Nigerian Diaspora, be totally inclusive, accountable and progressive. It is time to build a peaceful and progressive country where our communities can come together to unite and heal.

“Finding and working with a president who can cooperate with the Nigerian Diaspora to build a more progressive country is the first step in achieving this in the midst of chaos, financial ruin, and devastation. This Presidential Town Hall meeting offers the Global Nigerian Diaspora the chance to consider the past, take ownership of the present and reinvent the future.

“The Global Nigerian Diaspora will choose the discussion moderators in accordance with our established procedures. As always, we will exercise caution to ensure that the moderators are knowledgeable, competent, and unbiased,” the statement concluded.
