‘Threat against Peter Obi.. is threat against ALL of us!’ – Atiku Abubakar

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the threat by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, against former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, noting that the threat applies as well to everyone.

Okpebholo had, in a video that has gone viral, while addressing a gathering, said that Mr. Obi’s security could not be guaranteed if he ever came into the state again without getting permission from him.

The Edo governor made reference to Obi’s recent visit to a Nursing School in the state, where the former two-term Governor of Anambra State made a donation of N15 million to assist the School, alleging that as a result of the visit, there was a stampede that led to the death of three people.

The allegation has not been proved, but instead, only videos of jubilant students and staff of the institution, hailing Mr. Obi and singing and dancing in appreciation of his gesture, continues to be celebrated.

In a terse post on his X (former Twitter) handle, Alhaji Abubakar, who is, like Mr. Obi, one of the leaders of the new coalition of political forces operating on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said:

“Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us! -AA.”

Okpebholo’s threat has, besides Atiku’s knock, been widely condemned as undemocratic and unconstitutional.
