RESIDENTS of parts of Benin City, the Edo State capital, were, Monday, left counting their losses following a late evening thunderstorm which struck the metropolis, claiming properties worth millions of naira.

Ifa, a landlord on Edebiri Street, who lost two Plasma TV sets and a radio set said: “I was just relaxing indoors with my family when the rain started falling. You know it was so heavy and we still had electricity on when suddenly we heard a loud bang.
“The sound was shocking and before I knew it, I had lost these electrical appliances,” he said.
Mrs Lucky while describing her experience as traumatic added: “I have never seen this kind of thing in my life. Just as the rain was falling, we were shocked and surprised that NEPA still left the lights on so we went about doing our normal chores in the house and before we knew it, there was this loud deafening noise. I ended up losing my TV sets and some appliances.”
