TY Danjuma donates N5 billion to Diocese of Lagos Centenary City Project

Former Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, multi-millionaire businessman and phanthropist, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma GCON has made what can be the single largest donation of 5 Billion Naira to the Diocese of Lagos Centenary City project.

He made the announcement of the donation after the Bishop of Lagos, The Rt. Rev’d Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye decorated him as the  grand patron of the Diocese of Lagos Centenary celebration. He noted that the donation is to support the proposed low cost housing of the centenary city which is also to be named after him as pronounced by the bishop (General TY Danjuma Low Income Housing Estate Centenary City Anglican Communion).

The Diocese of Lagos, Anglican Communion under the dynamic Diocesan, The Rt. Rev’d Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye hosted a Gala and Award night to celebrate the Centenary Anniversary of the oldest ANGLICAN Diocese in Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos and raise funds for the building of the massive city located at Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos State.

Present at the event were eminent personalities like General TY Danjuma, Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency , Babajide Sanwoolu, APC leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, His Excellency, Governor Dairus Ishaku, Governor of Taraba State and Chief Tunde & Engr Mrs Oluseyi Afolabi, Chairman & CEO of Amni International Petroleum Company and many other dignitaries.

At the beautiful event held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, General TY Danjuma gave the highest donation of #5 Billlion naira towards the development of the Low Cost housing Estate in the Centenary City. Chief Tunde Afolabi also donated #500M towards the Youth Empowerment centre.

The City was conceived by the Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, The Rt Rev Dr Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye to give an enduring legacy back to the society as the Diocese marks 100                           years. The CITY will accommodate Youth Empowerment and Development Center, St. Luke’s global hospital, Games Village, low‐cost housing estate, Convention ground, Women empowerment center, rehabilitation center, amusement park, Gethsemane garden and many more.

The Gala and Award night is one of the events put together to celebrate the 100 years of the Diocese to be concluded with a Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday 10th of December 2019 at the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina, Lagos.

The Diocesan was supported at the event by his immediate predecessor and wife, The Most Revd Dr Ephraim Adebola and Mrs Oluranti Ademowo OON and other Bishops across the Country.

Awards of recognition were given to eminent personalities and group  at the historic event.

Earlier Bishop Olumakiaye gave cheques to some Dioceses in the North to embark on community projects like boreholes and water treatment plants. The beneficiaries are Dioceses of Yola, Maiduguri, Bauchi, Damaturu, Jalingo, Gombe, Panshi, Langtan, Bari, Ikara and Kwara. Also an evangelism bus was donated to the Diocese of Osun North East in Osun State.

Bishop Olumakaiye noted that;

“We need to give something back to the next generation that will forever be cherished, and to make our environment worth living, we have decided to build a centenary city between Lekki-Ibeju-Epe axis.

“The Bible says that we will always have the poor among us; it is the duty of the church to take care of the poor,” Olumakaiye said.

He said that the church had been providing accommodation to less-privileged church members and giving scholarships to students without making noise.

“We will continue to make impact on the society and to cooperate with the government in making life worth living for the people,” .
