Unemployed man jailed 12 years for breaking into Church

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year unemployed man, Azeez Abdullahi, to 12 years imprisonment for breaking into a Church and attempting to steal.

Magistrate M. C. Ayinde, sentenced Abdullahi after he pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy, burglary and attempt to steal.

He was arraigned on July 7.

Ayinde said that the convict should serve out his term without an option of fine at  the Kirikiri correction centre.

She sentenced the convict to two year imprisonment for conspiracy, five years each for burglary and attempt to steal.

Ayinde held that the sentence should run concurrently with hard labour.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel,  Insp Segun Oke  told the court that the defendant committed the offences with two others at large on June 27 at Triumphant Christian Center, Oba Akran Avenue Ikeja.

Oke said that the defendant scaled the church fence and broke into the generator house.

He also said that he was caught by the police men guarding the church.

The prosecutor said that different sizes of spanners, screw drivers, pliers and battery cable connectors were recovered from defendant.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 309, 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
