USAID-HWMA supports Sokoto health institutions with teaching aids

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project, Health Workforce Management Activity (HWMA), has supported two health institutions with various teaching aids in Sokoto.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the schools are the College of Nursing Science Sokoto and Sultan Abdulrahman School of Health Technology, Gwadabawa.

Receiving the items on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Bashir Garba, lauded the donor, saying the support will impact positively on the teaching and learning process of the institutions.

“This is a sign of encouragement and motivation on the government’s dedication towards ensuring the provision of all the necessary teaching and learning aids across institutions of higher learning in the state.

“We have made adequate provision in our 2022 budget, to sustain our commitment in addressing schools infrastructure, as well as the required school aids across the state.

“Moreover, the state government has made provision for automatic employment for all successful graduates of health institutions, to breach the gap in the health sector of the state,” he said.

Garba, represented by Mr Al-Mustapha Ali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Health, added that the state government is working to ensure that all the institutions in the state are successfully accredited.

He urged the management of the two institutions to judiciously utilise the items for the purpose of they are meant for.

The state Coordinator HWMA, Mrs Naomi Waziri, said that the support is in recognition of the institutions’ dedication towards producing first hand personnel that would continue to assist in ensuring better health for the people.

“The aim is to support the institutions in ensuring a successful accreditation and to provide for the required needs for training of qualified and adequate manpower from the colleges.

“More so, the gesture is part of USAID’s commitment in strengthening pre-service health training in Sokoto.

“This is to ensure provision of equipment that will enhance the skills of both the tutors and the students,” she said.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abubakar Tambuwal, Provost, College of Nursing Science, commended USAID for the gesture, and said that the materials will be adequately used.

NAN reports that items donated included, breast model, adult and feutal skulls, pelvic model, patient nostril, vulva, anti-shock garment vacuum extractor, forcep delivery set and medical charts.

Others are, Mama Natalie, Neo Natalie, projectors, projector screen, Laptops, nursing training doll, kidney model, heart model, placenta model, eye model, ear model, liver model and human skeleton.
