The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibrahim Yusuf has commended the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), particularly the Borno state Correspondent’s Chapel for their role in the counter insurgency war in the North-east.

The GOC made the commendation, when the executive of the Correspondents’ Chapel paid him a courtesy call, at the Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri Tuesday.

General Yusuf said by the time the history of the counter insurgency war is going to be written, the role of the media is going to be written in gold, adding that the relationship that exists between the military and the media in Borno state is outstanding.

He said the Army has enjoyed a lot of support from the journalists in the state and assured that the Division will continue to work closely with the media to bring to an end the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east.

He said the military is making progress in the war against Boko Haram and that very soon the war will come to an end and called on the general public, particularly those in the North-east to support the military by reporting any suspicious movements/object to the nearest security agents.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of the Borno state Correspondent`s Chapel, Alhaji Haruna Dauda, who led the Executive on the courtesy call on the GOC said “we have to support the Nigerian Military in the war against Boko Haram, as we don’t have any country than Nigeria. Nigeria is ours and we have to do everything possible to safeguard it.”

While congratulating the GOC over his promotion to Major General, he assured the military that they will continue to partner and support them in the fight against insurgency and prayed that the insurgency will soon come to an end so that soldiers will go back to their facilities.
