The Executive Chairman of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed has disclosed that 8 persons were confirmed dead from probable yellow fever while 8 person are confirmed with active yellow fever in Ganjuwa local government of Bauchi state .
Dr Rilwanu revealed this to newsmen in a press conference saying that the 8 active and probable cases are from two wards of Ganjuwa Local Government area of the state.
He said, “during last week’s immunization exercise 8 persons were reported dead as a result of a suspected disease but after samples were taken to the National Reference Laboratory and tested its results came out positive for yellow fever”.
According to him, the agency has reactivated its rapid response team that includes Case Management pillar, surveillance,and Risk Communication pillars.
The Federal Government had programmed a preventive vaccination for 19 Local Government areas of the state for February 2021.
“With this development the Agency will carry out vaccination in the two wards and eventually to the entire Local Government ”
Dr Rilwanu emphasized the need for families to keep a clean environment.
He then called on the general public not to panic as government, with relevant stakeholders, is doing everything possible to safeguard the health of the people.
