Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Wednesday, commissioned the Iloabuchi – Eagle Island Link road in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State as part of the activities marking his 100 days in office and in fulfilment of the campaign promises made to the people of Rivers.
According to the Governor, the contractor promised him that the construction project would be completed and showcased as one of his achievements in his first 100 days in office.
The State Chief Executive, who commended the contractor for fulfilling his promise, thanked the people of Ohabu for supporting the project from start to finish – noting that many projects were abandoned because of lack of community support.
On the issue of illegal dredging in the area, Governor Wike assured the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA )Chairman that the sponsors were wasting time and money because any structure resulting from the dredging activity will be demolished.
Wike also said he has empowered the Local Council boss to use his own taskforce to stop the trespassers.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon. Clifford Oparaodu who welcomed the Governor, described the occasion as historic.
The PHALGA chairman noted that people of Ohabu now have an alternative route to enter and exit the area as opposed to the Agip Road that was hitherto the only road leading to the community.
