19 Akwa Ibom State University students arrested by EFCC over alleged internet fraud

The 19 arrested students

Nineteen (19) Undergraduates of Akwa Ibom State University, Mkpat-Enin, were on Friday, April 28, 2023, arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over suspected internet- related offences.

The suspects were arrested at two locations, the Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge, both located at Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to the EFCC, their arrest followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scam, fraudulent crypto currency transactions and impersonation.

Items recovered from the suspects included laptops and mobile phones and they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded by the anti-graft agency.
