EFCC detains former Attorney-General Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, after he failed to meet the bail conditions given to him.

A source in the Commission confirmed that Malami remained in custody until late Tuesday night because he did not meet the requirements. He is being questioned over matters linked to money laundering and the use of suspicious accounts.

According to the source, the EFCC is also probing issues related to terrorism financing and the handling of recovered Abacha funds. The source said Malami will remain in custody until he satisfies all bail conditions.

The former minister has been directed to report for questioning every day throughout December. The EFCC is currently investigating him for 18 offences, including money laundering, abuse of office and terrorism financing. The source added that the full amount involved is not yet known, as more details continue to emerge during the investigation.
