The ongoing intellectual impasse regarding the secular/sacred divide highlights a deep systemic flaw in modern discourse: the tendency to treat opposing philosophical viewpoints as entirely subjective. While a debate between a thoroughly secular worldview and a traditional metaphysical framework often stalls because each side views the other’s premises as mere personal preference, this gridlock obscures a far more significant, systemic error.
The true crisis of modern thought is not an unresolvable clash of equal subjectivities. It is a profound epistemic inversion—an absurdity of the mind and heart wherein humanity mistakes its own socially constructed experiments for objective reality, while treating the eternal foundation of existence as a secondary, negotiable utility.

Objective reality—the foundational, uncaused plane of existence that classical philosophy defines as the Transcendent—has always existed. It is the unyielding framework that sustains the cosmos and human consciousness from moment to moment. Humanity did not create this reality; we were spoken into it.
However, the modern era began when human beings subjectively decided to mount an unprecedented philosophical experiment. By intellectual fiat, humanity attempted to fence off a portion of human experience, creating a socially constructed space completely emptied of the divine. This artificial zone—the secular sphere—was built on human metrics, raw materialism, and the presumption of human cognitive self-sovereignty. It was an intentional simulation of an universe without a Creator, a psychological and social sandbox where human reason was crowned absolute ruler.
The Great Absurdity: Submitting the Infinite to the Finite
The true insanity of the project becomes visible not in its initial rebellion, but in its subsequent panic. Having successfully established a thoroughly desacralized, cold, and mechanical sandbox, the secular mind quickly realized that a purely materialistic existence produces profound existential dread, social fragmentation, and spiritual starvation. The vacuum was unlivable.
Instead of recognizing the secular sandbox as a failed simulation and stepping out of it, the architects of modern thought devised an absurd remedy: they decided to “re-include” the sacred. However, because they refuse to surrender their self-proclaimed sovereignty, they do not attempt to submit human systems to the divine. Instead, they attempt to ingest the sacred into the secular framework.
This is the definitive category mistake of our age. Secularism seeks to treat the infinite, unchanging wisdom of God as a useful therapeutic component to be integrated into human psychological metrics, corporate wellness schemes, and socio-political systems. They turn to the Transcendent and demand that He conform to the rules, language, and boundaries of the very sandbox built to exclude Him. It is an act of supreme foolishness—an attempt to force the ocean into a plastic bucket, believing all the while that the bucket is the master of the water.
The Hall of Mirrors
When a society uses a secular, human-centric framework to define, measure, and integrate the sacred, it ceases to interact with objective reality entirely. It traps itself in a closed, subjective loop—a psychological hall of mirrors.
What the modern world calls “spiritual integration” is not a genuine encounter with the divine. It is merely the secular mind admiring its own reflection, mistaking the artificial products of its social engineering for a bridge to the transcendent. A synthetic sacred, managed and optimized by human metrics to boost emotional resilience or corporate efficiency, is merely an idol made of psychological data rather than stone.
Conclusion: The Sanity of the Ontological Chasm
True harmony cannot be achieved by repackaging the withered results of a failed secular experiment. We cannot construct a wholesome reality by adding a calculated dose of “spirituality” to a sterile, materialistic worldview.
Sanity is restored only when the secular experiment is recognized for what it is: a proud, fragile, and ultimately unworkable construction of the human ego. The human metrics must be discarded. To find true alignment, humanity must step to the edge of the ontological chasm, discard the illusion of its own management, and humbly recognize the immutable truth of our existence: the sacred cannot be integrated into our systems—we must be integrated into His.
