Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo Sunday directed the Gombe State Police Command to henceforth arrest any politician found defacing public buildings and monuments with their 2017 campaign posters.
The Governor, who also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to warn the desperate political actors, said politicians should know that it is not yet time for politicking.
This directive was part of his Sallah message to the people of the State immediately after the Eid prayers marking the end of the Muslim Month of Ramadan held at the eid praying ground in Gombe.
According to him, “we have made the state capital beautiful with these monuments but these desperate politicians are busy defacing them. I’m directing the State Police Commissioner that from today, anybody found littering or defacing our monuments with campaign posters should be arrested”.
He also used the occasion to restate the State Government’s position over the quit notice issued by a Northern Youth Organization that all South-Easterners should leave the North.
He said all Nigerians are welcome to Gombe State as long as they are law abiding adding that his administration will not condone any form of discrimination against any Nigerian who is pursuing his legitimate business.
He then called on the people of the state to ensure that they create a conducive atmosphere for herdsmen who are coming from the Southern part of the country to pass through the State peacefully to avoid clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
Earlier in a statement sent to newsmen, Governor Dankwambo called on Muslims to imbibe the good lessons of the Ramadan which are selflessness, endurance and obedience to the Commandments of Allah, adding, “as we are aware, Islam preaches peace, tolerance and mutual respect amongst members of every community, irrespective of religious or ethnic diversity”
