Man sentenced to death by hanging for killing his father inside Mosque.

    Bauchi State High Court Number Five presided over by  Justice Aliyu Baba Usman has sentenced Alhaji Umaru Muhammadu Jauro Ori of Mai’aduwa​ ​​ Village of Misau Local Government area in the State to death by hanging for​ ​​ killing his  father inside a Mosque.
    Delivering his judgement in Bauchi, Justice Usman said​ ​​ he listened to both sides, both the prosecution and the defense counsels led by Barrister Chukwuemeka Ikwazu and​​ after listening to both sides​​ concluded that “the death of the victim was as a result of the act of the accused and the prosecution counsels have proved their case beyond reasonable doubt, thereby​ ​​ found the accused culpable of homicide punishable with death under section 221 of the Bauchi state laws, I hereby sentence him to die by hanging.”
    He said the Chief State Counsel, Hussein Ishaq Magaji, told the court that the accused went in to a Mosque in Mai’aduwa Village and stabbed his father with a cutlass on his head and back, as a result he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Misau General Hospital where he died the following day from the wounds of the attack contrary to section 221 of the Penal code laws.
    According to him, the accused denied and pleaded not guilty to the offence during trial. The Prosecution counsel brought​ ​​ ten witnesses in their separate statements recorded by the Police during investigation which were attached to the documents before the court, Junior brother of the deceased, 70 year old Umar Mohammed Jatau and Junior brother of the accused, 26 year old Ibrahim Muhammadu Jauro Ori, stated that the suspect has problem with their father and themselves,
    The witnesses said the deceased separated their food from that of his Junior Brother Ibrahim and he gave each one of them their own farms and he left their village for over ten months. No one knew his whereabouts until the day he came and entered the mosque while they were praying and stabbed their father on his head and back and their father fell down.
    They added that youths in the area pursued the accused and arrested him because he tried to run away. They took him to the Police and took the deceased to the Hospital where he died while receiving treatment. His body was released to them and he was buried according to Islamic rights.
    The suspect in his statement recorded by the Police said he has a wife and three children – two male, one female and that he killed his father because his father separated him and his wife when he traveled out to open his eyes and stayed for a long time. He said the deceased divorced his wife and that presently he has no wife. Secondly, he said, his father separated him from his two brothers. We are not like we were before after our father gave each one of us his farm.
    Umaru said that when he returned he took a machete and entered the mosque and stabbed his father on his head and back and he fell down. He said that when he ran away, the youths pursued and arrested him. He said they beat him mercilessly and injured his right fingers.
    According to him,  they took their father to the Hospital and he died while receiving treatment. “I don’t kill human beings, I am not an armed robber and this is the first time I killed a human being.”
