A group under the auspices of the Niger-Delta Peoples’ Forum, in Borno has thrown its weight behind the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and the election of Governor Kashim Shettima as Senator for Borno Central on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group with over 500 registered members drawn from Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo among other states, after an emergency stakeholders meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State on Thursday said it resolved to support the re-election of Buhari and election of governor Shettima as Senator to consolidate gains and successes made in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
“The Niger-Delta Peoples’ Forum, Borno State chapter, on behalf of our leader, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Kashim Shettima on Special Duties, Christopher Godwin Akaba, hereby call on all sons and daughters of Niger-Delta resident in Maiduguri to come out en masse on Saturday 23rd, February, 2019, to vote President Muhammadu Buhari as our President,” the group said.
They further said ” we also throw our weight behind Governor Kashim Shettima as our Senator for Borno Central Senatorial District and Hon. Khadiri Rahis as our Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) House of Reps member in the forthcoming presidential and National Assembly elections.
“We want to re-state our unalloyed support to the APC and the Borno State government under the leadership of the state government because he has been of support to our people,” President of the forum, John Azimeye said in a statement after the meeting.
He said they have lived in the state for a long time without challenge, adding that the state has remained a home for them.
“There’s no doubt that President Muhammadu Buhari if re-elected will consolidate on the gains and successes he already made in the fight against insurgency thereby making Borno State more secured and favourable for our businesses.” Azimeye stated.
