The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to provide a statement in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged fraudulent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The ICPC, in a statement, confirmed that Gbajabiamila honoured an invitation by its investigators at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on June 20, 2026, as part of efforts to establish the facts surrounding the operations of the purported council.
According to the Commission, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the anti-corruption agency to investigate how the PFIPC—an entity the Presidency has publicly disowned as fraudulent—operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for about two years.
The alleged Council was reportedly run by one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is accused of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the organisation.
The ICPC disclosed that the President’s Chief of Staff arrived at its headquarters in the afternoon, responded to questions from investigators, and left the premises after concluding his session.
The Commission clarified that Gbajabiamila’s appearance was strictly in response to an invitation and should not be construed as an arrest.
“The Chief of Staff willingly honoured the invitation of our investigators in line with ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the matter,” the Commission stated.
It added that investigations into the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council remain ongoing and assured that further updates would be provided as appropriate.
