The solidarity of the South East geo- political zone for the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, was visibly demonstrated on Tuesday as the Presidential campaign train arrived Owerri, Imo state capital for the region’s zonal rally.

Who is who in the South East political leadership, former governors, former Ministers and other key political actors all combined with the three state governors of the party, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu to declare the unflinching support of the region for the PDP.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 General Elections, at the event, restated his commitment to the restructuring of the country if voted into power.

He charged the people of the zone to remain dogged in their quest for a government that would sympathise with their desires and aspirations and further promised to introduce economic policies that would enable businesses to thrive and give the Igbos their pride of place in the country.

Atiku also assured the South-East of encompassing security architecture, devoid of ethnic or religious marginalisation, while charging the people to protect their votes.

His words: “We are going to restructure Nigeria and create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“Nigeria’s security architecture will involve people from different zones of the federation because we will enshrine respect for the rule of law and accommodate everybody.

“It will be necessary that you vote and stay because your vote is your power. Don’t vote and go; stay back and protect your votes,” he said.

The rally, which held at the Dan Anyim Stadium, attracted a mammoth crowd of supporters.

PDP zonal chairman Austin Umahi among the other big wigs of the party from the zone gave assurance to the Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his Vice, Mr. Peter Obi that the region has decided to invest in them because it is a worthy investment that they are sure will yield dividends.

The Vice Presidential candidate, Obi, told the jubilant crowd that thronged the Dan Ányiam Stadium, Owerri that Atiku and PDP are the correct people to vote for because they are ready to create jobs and restructure Nigeria.

Obi said that with Atiku, the Nigerian environment will be good again for Ndigbo to carry on  their businesses.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is also the Director General of the PDP Presidential campaign told the crowd to dump the All Progressives Congress, APC, as he did because they have nothing good for Nigeria.

Saraki said that the APC cannot give jobs nor keep existing ones and that the country is going down under their watch.

The wife of the Presidential candidate, Barrister Jamila Atiku Abubakar, who hails from the South East zone, urged her people to come out en masse on February 16, to cast their votes for her husband because he has what it takes to put the country right.

The PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus restated his warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, that a rigged election is an invitation to crisis for which they will be held responsible.

Secondus said that Nigeria is ripe for an energetic, tested and tried President like Atiku Abubakar unlike the APC candidate who cannot engage in, or even articulate, issues as was witnessed by the whole world in a recent televised interview.

Prince Secondus, at the colorful ceremony, also handed over victory flags to the four gubernatorial candidates of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and Imo states.
