The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress – APC for the 2022 Governorship election, Obong Akanimo Udofia, on Sunday, condoled with families of victims of the collapsed four-storey building, along Iman Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The four-storey building collapsed around 5pm on Saturday, claiming two lives, and leaving scores with various degrees of injuries.

Udofia visited the scene on Sunday September 18 and regretted the unfortunate situation while praying for the peaceful repose of the souls lost.

Thanking God for sparing the lives of those who were trapped in the rubble hours before being rescued, Mr. Udofia expressed hope that God would save their lives and grant them quick recovery.

The governorship hopeful stressed that time cometh when relevant government agencies would be adequately empowered to efficiently carry out their statutory responsibilities to prevent such devastating occurrences.

“With a view to eliminating a recurrence of building collapse in Akwa Ibom State, we will ensure that all relevant statutory agencies, saddled with the onerous duties of physical planning and regulation of building/property development in the state, are empowered to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently”, he said.
