With few days to the kickoff of the 34th AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed a substantial 40 per cent increase in the Prize Money for the winner of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

The Winner of the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will now be awarded $7 million (R131 million). The Runner-up is set to receive $4 million (R75 million), while each of the two Semi-finalists will be granted $2.5 million (R46 million) each. Furthermore, the four Quarter-finalists will receive $1.3 million (R24 million) each.

Dr Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in increasing the Prize Money for AFCON and other major competitions over the past two years. The 40 per cent increase in the AFCON Winner’s Prize Money, now standing at USD 7,000,000, demonstrates CAF’s commitment to enhancing the financial rewards for participating teams.

Dr Motsepe stated, “I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.” This move reflects CAF’s dedication to promoting the growth and sustainability of football across the African continent.
