The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Sen. John Azuta-Mbata, has urged Igbos across the country to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC).
Azuta-Mbata made the call in a message signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, on Thursday in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began registration of new voters and a revalidation exercise on Aug. 25 and to end on Dec.12.
Azuta-Mbata appealed to Igbos who are 18 years and above to utilise the opportunity to get their PVCs to be able to vote during elections
“I am calling on Ndigbo wherever you are in Nigeria to quickly go and take the advantage of the voter registration that is going on right now to register. Go and get your card as quickly as possible.”
He equally appealed to the Federal Government to allow detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to go for treatment, stating that his continued incarceration was not of any serious advantage to the Federal Government.
He said, “Secondly, I will like to call upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to quickly release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“It is important that the government ensures his safety and his welfare. The government must allow him to go for medical treatment as quickly as possible.
“The government must adopt a political solution to this situation. I do not believe that the government has any serious advantage in keeping him any further,” he said.
