AGENE GODWIN, Benin
As political activities heighten ahead of the 2016 governorship election in Edo state, a group, the Edo Emancipation Association, a socio-cultural organisation has protested the use of government facilities by an unnamed aspirant.
A statement signed by the Facilitator, Musa Igbadmus, which was made available to newsmen in Benin City, said ‘nobody, no matter how highly placed must convert government facilities for his personal use.’
“I want to alert the general public about some development in our polity ahead of the 2016 governorship election. We have observed that an aspirant has converted a bungalow on Commercial Avenue to be used as his campaign office to prosecute his governorship ambition.
“The said plot Number 8 is located directly opposite the Deputy Governor’s official lodge and the building is been renovated as we speak now by the said government appointee.
“From our findings, the said state government building was once an official quarter of a judge and from records that building has not been sold by the state government and we wonder why one of the aspirants who is still serving in the Edo State government will be converting such structure to be used as his campaign secretariat.
“We want to appeal to those aspirants seeking for elective positions to please desist from using an government facilities to prosecute their personal interest.”
