Former House of Representatives lawmaker from Akwa Ibom, Hon. Dan Akpan has threatened to sue the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), for not allowing his JAMB center to register candidates for the just concluded 2017/2918 UTME registration exercise.

This is even as he alleged that, over 6000 candidates seeking registration with JAMB in Akwa Ibom this year would miss out of the Computer Based Test (CBT).

Hon. Akpan, who is also the Proprietor of Spring-wood Investment Limited at Ikot Okpudo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the State, gave the threat recently, saying that, the center which was approved and accredited by JAMB in 2016, as Computer-Based Test (CBT) center for 2017/2018 UTME with registration number: UTME 2017/05060001, was refused access by JAMB to register candidates.

He said, he has done everything humanly possible to sort out the differences with JAMB Office in Akwa Ibom to reactivate the center for use by his constituents but, the State Coordinator was elusive.

According to him, ‘‘problem started when our router could not access JAMB, and we had to report the matter to the State Coordinator, Mrs Odigida who referred us to Mr Adamu, a Director in the Abuja office.

‘‘Since then, my administrator has been talking to Adamu in Abuja Office, who promised to give us a replaced SIM Card but, two months after, he referred us to the State Coordinator to handle the matter, who incidentally is not helping us.

But JAMB State Coordinator, Mrs Odigida was reluctant to speak on the matter when contacted querying, ‘‘what is my business? Please find out from the center administrator or the proprietor’’.

Meanwhile, the proprietor said all efforts to restore the center was not successful as relevant  JAMB personnel who should assist him failed to do so.

‘‘Because of this, I had personally gone to the Abuja office to complain and they admitted receiving our letter of complaint. As I am talking to you, JAMB has not done anything to rectify the problem, and we are completely frustrated as we could not do registration this year. We have refunded monies paid by prospective candidates to go and register elsewhere so that, they won’t be frustrated at the end of the day. But I believe that, there is somebody sitting on this issue somewhere just to ensure that we don’t do registration’’.

Hon. Akpan however, accused the JAMB State Coordinator of conniving with the Center Administrator, Mr Caleb Ogunmola to frustrate the centre, alleging that, (she) Mrs Odigida had earlier demanded N1.5 Million to reconnect the center.
