Federal Government approves Innovation-focused College of Education for Akwa Ibom

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a Federal College of Education (Innovation), in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

Sen. Ita Enang, former Senior Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs to the President disclosed this to newsmen at the site of the new institution in Ididep near Uyo on Saturday.

Enang said the institution would help meet the demand for quality teachers in the state and the country.

He commended former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu for approving the institution.

“The school which would be one of its kind in the country will be the first College of Education, that focus on twenty first century innovation to help drive creativity,” Enang said.

Enang allayed fears that the Presbyterian Senior Science School Ididep would be scraped due to the siting of the Federal College of Education in the premises of the school.

He added that the tertiary institution would operate side by side with the secondary school, as there was enough land to accommodate the two institutions.

He assured the people of the area that the institution would boost economic activities in the community, urging them to support efforts of the federal Government in developing the nation.

Enang said that the federal government had appointed Dr Edem Ntuk as pioneer Provost and Mr. Nsemeke Udoakpan as pioneer Registrar of the new College.

He added that the College of Education, Innovation would commence academic activities in September this year.

In his remarks, the Provost of the new institution, Ntuk thanked Enang for his efforts to bring life-touching projects to the state.

Ntuk revealed that the institution will train and equip students with first degrees and other higher degrees.

The Principal of the Presbyterian Senior Science school Ididep, Mrs. Roseline Inyang-Ibom presented an excellence award to Enang.

She commended Enang for personally constructing classroom blocks and other projects in the school.

The principal charged other old boys and girls of the school to contribute to the growth of the institution.
