FIFA U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles face Saudi Arabia in must-win clash

Flying Eagles in action.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will take on Saudi Arabia on Friday, 3 October 2025, in their second Group Stage match at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

Both teams are under pressure after opening defeats. Nigeria lost 1-0 to Norway in their first match, while Saudi Arabia also suffered a 1-0 defeat to Colombia. The results mean Friday’s game is crucial for both sides as they look to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 16 alive.
The Flying Eagles, seven-time African champions and two-time FIFA U20 World Cup runners-up, entered the tournament as one of the favourites. However, they struggled to convert chances against Norway, despite dominating much of the game.
Head coach Aliyu Zubair believes his players have put the loss behind them and are ready to fight for victory against Saudi Arabia. With key players available, he is expected to stick with his attacking 4-3-3 formation, focusing on possession and creativity in front of goal.
Saudi Arabia, who also need a win, are expected to come out strong as they seek to bounce back from their loss to Colombia.
