Nigerian singer, Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has recounted how a social media post showing him with a cigarette left his family worried, with his mother reportedly crying after seeing the image.
Fireboy DML said the incident occurred after he shared a snippet on his Instagram Story while holding a cigarette in his mouth, prompting a strong reaction from members of his family on their WhatsApp group.
According to the singer, his family initially interpreted the post as an indication that he had started smoking.
“I posted a snippet on my Instagram Story while holding a cigarette in my mouth, and my whole family started crashing out in the WhatsApp group,” Fireboy DML said.
He added that his mother was crying over what she had seen, forcing him to explain that the cigarette was connected to a showbiz activity.
“My mom was crying, and I had to explain to them that it was just showbiz,” he said.
However, Fireboy DML admitted that he eventually smoked the cigarette, saying, “I later smoked it sha, I can’t lie.”
The singer’s account highlights how social media posts can sometimes be interpreted differently by family members when the context behind an image is not immediately clear.
The incident also illustrates how content shared as part of an artiste’s entertainment or professional activities can prompt concern among relatives who may not be aware of the circumstances surrounding the post.
