Flamingos of Nigeria thrash Guinea, reach final round of U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, defeated Guinea 6-0 in the second leg of their 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier on Sunday to complete an emphatic 11-0 aggregate victory.

After winning the first leg 5-0, the Flamingos produced another impressive performance at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne to move into the final round of the qualifiers.

Nigeria took the lead in the ninth minute through Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who finished well to give the hosts an early advantage.

The Flamingos doubled their lead in the 21st minute when captain Harmony Chidi found the back of the net. Just two minutes later, Queen Joseph added a third goal as Nigeria continued to dominate the match.

Adegbuyi scored her second goal in the 32nd minute to make it 4-0 before Chidi grabbed her second of the game two minutes later, giving the Flamingos a comfortable 5-0 lead at half-time.

Nigeria maintained the pressure after the break despite already holding a huge aggregate advantage. Their efforts were rewarded in the 70th minute when Precious Oscar scored the sixth goal to complete a convincing victory.

The Flamingos will now face Benin in the third and final qualifying round for a place at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. The first leg will be played between July 3 and 5, while the return leg is scheduled for July 10 to 12.

In other final-round fixtures, Senegal will take on Ghana, Zambia will face Ethiopia, while South Africa will meet Kenya.
