Governor Ugwuanyi frowns at shoddy work done on drainage by Shoprite

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has frowned at the substandard work done by the Shoprite, a mega shopping mall in the state capital in its construction of drainage system to contain the hazards constituted by the waste from its industrial activities.

Governor Ugwuanyi expressed this dissatisfaction during his inspection of government work sites inside the State College of Education Technical which premises is polluted by the waste.

The state government had earlier directed the management of the shopping mall to construct a suitable drainage system, regretting that it has done a shoddy work.

The governor was briefed on the state of affairs of the facility by the institution’s director of works who told him that the management of the company had not done the proper work to end the risk users of the area pass through as a result of the pollution.

Speaking to newsmen at the site of the drainage system, the director of works of the college, Engr. Rufus Chime, noted that he had earlier informed the Shoprite management that the drainage the centre constructed is unacceptable by the institution.

“We are not going to accept this because it is not what we agreed on.” According to him, the whole drainage has to be covered. He regretted that the poor construction was done during the yuletide that he was not present. He added that he latter invited the management of Shoprite centre and informed them of the poor work.

He assured that he would again meet with the management for the proper reconstruction of the drainage to forestall pollution of the institution’s premises.
