Idris, Bello, Odion, other stakeholders discuss Big Tech and the Media

Top government officials and leading media practitioners and other key stakeholders came together in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city to brainstorm on the nagging question of Big Tech and sustainability of the media.

Among those that featured prominently at the meeting were Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris and CEO/Executive Vice-Chairman, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Barrister Olatunji Bello.

Also at the event were the Executive Commissioner (Operations) FCCPC, Mr. Louis Odion, Editor-in-Chief, LEADERSHIP Newspapers, Mr. Azu Ishiekwene, National Treasurer, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Dr Iyobosa Uwugiaren, Editorial Director, Daily Trust, Malam Ibrahim Shehu and the GM/CEO, Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Mr. Segun Adediran.

There have been serious concerns concerning the unfair treatment of media organisations by Big Tech companies, and expectations are that such meetings will proffer mutually beneficial solutions to the identified problems.
