IG Zone 12 doles out over N40m cheques to families of slain officers

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12 Bauchi, Yakubu O Jibrin has presented a cheque of N40 million to the families of 36 officers in the zone who lost their bread winners in the line of duty while serving the nation.

Disclosing this on Tuesday to newsmen while issuing the cheques to the deceased families at the Zone 12 headquarters Bauchi, Jibrin said that the donation was made under the Nigeria Police Insurance Scheme to 36 the families of the heroes within Bauchi, Yobe and Borno states police commands, which make up the zone.

He explained that the Nigeria Police Insurance Scheme is designed to compensate members of the Nigeria Police Force, who may suffer accident or injury or members of their family in the event of death of a police officer while discharging his or her duties.

According to him, the benefits of the scheme include death, permanent disability or medical expenses benefits amongst others and expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the Police for the welfare gesture.

The AIG condoled those who have lost their loved ones and assured them of the support of the Nigeria Police Force, saying that the gesture is a continuous process.

Mrs Osawere John who responded on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the AIG and the Police authorities for the gesture, saying it would go a long way to address their difficulties.
