The National Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Iyiola Omisore, has offset medical bills of over 27 stranded patients at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.
Omisore paid the medical bills, of about N3.3 million on Sunday, during his 19th year hospital visitation as part of his yearly intervention for those who are hospitalised, discharged but detained after receiving necessary treatment from the hospital for inability to pay and go home.
The National Secretary during a visit toured round the various wards in the hospital together with the OAUTHC Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof Afolabi Owojuyigbe and other Principal Officers.
The State’s former Deputy Governor, while presenting new year gift packs to the patients prayed for their quick recovery.
Omisore said, it is good for the privileged in the society to always think back and assist the less privileged who are finding it hard to meet the basics needs of life all the time not during festive periods alone.
He added, by way of encouragement, that their present situation is just a temporary and that they will be discharged and go back to their respective homes peacefully.
According to him, it is a privilege for us to be where we are today, that to even be alive is not by our own making but by the grace of God and that all glory belongs to Him.
“Surely, I know nobody wishes to celebrate the new year on the sick bed but it’s beyond our own comprehension.
“Reason, it is important, for those God has blessed to remember those who have not, to spread the joy of this season,” Omisore stated.
The Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Owojuyigbe appreciated Sen. Omisore for the consistency of his yearly visits to the Hospital on new year day to celebrate with their patients and paying their debts to set them free.
Owojuyigbe said that this singular act is purely humanitarian in nature and expressed hope that others in the society would emulate Omisore by giving back to the less privileged.
“Apart from his new year visitation, he has been a friend of the Hospital, partnering with us.
“The phase 3 and phase 4 of the Hospitals with architectural masterpiece, equipments was by his own efforts when he was the chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation.
“We pray he will continue to advance and be relevant in national politics because he is a man of his words,” the acting CMD said.
In addition, the borehole for water supply, constructed by the lawmaker representing Ife Central State Constituency, Hon. Taiwo Adebusola, was commissioned by Sen. Omisore for the use of the Hospitals.
Speaking on the project, the donor, Adebusola said water is very essential, most especially where we are dealing with lives, reason I constructed the borehole to serve the Hospitals.
The Acting CMD appreciated the donor for his thoughtful provision of the borehole for the use of the hospitals.
