New herbal remedy offers hope for sickle cell sufferers

There are flickers of hope for Sickle Cell sufferers in Nigeria as some of them have embraced a new herbal remedy as a prophylactic to ease the burden of the disorder and boost their immunity.

Caregivers and parents of Sickle Cell patients in the Edo state capital, Benin City, have been recounting their experiences with, and health benefits of, the herbal product called Mojeaga.

The remedy was unveiled at a seminar for members of Edo state Sickle Cell Club led by its interim President, Mr. Gregory Aigbenoga, who said his child who is a Sickle Cell sufferer stopped having severe crises after using the herbal preparation.

He urged elderly Sickle Cell sufferers and non sufferers to take advantage of the benefits of the herbs in order to overcome ailments usually associated with ageing with irregular parked cell volume (PCV) in the blood.

A sickle cell sufferer and President of Edicharson Foundation, Mr. Charles Edigin, at the occasion said he felt greatly relieved since he started using the remedy in 2015 shortly after a surgery at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

Edigin who claimed to have suffered a severe priapism arising from the surgery said, “I have been helping myself and God has also directed the herbal medicine to me and it has helped me”.

Speaking on development, the Chief Executive and Managing Director of Mojeaga Herbal remedy, described the product as a blood builder adding however that it does not replace blood transfusion.

He said the product had been duly certified by approved institutions of government such as NAFDAC. He said, “Every product has security measures. The medicine is properly sealed and distributed through accredited agents”.

A midwife, Mrs. Evbaziengbere Ikonowan, said she had used Mojeaga Herbal remedy to treat a patient with diabetics sour on her leg and  a Sickle Cell sufferer and said it was helpful.
