The Nigerian Consulate in New York, United States of America (US) has officially announced the first screening of a Nigerian film titled Eyimofe (This is My Desire) in the United States holding on Friday, July 23, 2021.
The historic event, according to a notice by Ambassador Nicholas A. Ella, Consul (Trade & Investment), on behalf of the Consul General, will take place at the Film Forum, 209 West Houston Street, New York, NY 10014.
He said that the widely celebrated film will continue to be played in the same theater in New York for several weeks after the premiere.
Ambassador Ella, while inviting interested Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to attend the premiere and watch the Film, also announced that tickets to the event are now on sale and can be purchased at www.eyimofemovie.com.
He said that “Eyimofe (This is My Desire) is an award-winning film which was wholly performed in Lagos and fully financed in Nigeria. It was the first film from GDN Studios, the latest company within The Guardian Nigeria Group.”
The movie, the statement said further,”follows the stories of Mofe, a factory technician, and Rosa, a hairdresser, on their quest for what they believe will be a better life on foreign shores. Tragedy and fate intervene – and as time passes and wounds heal, they find that the better life they wanted can be built at home.
“The film was acquired for North America distribution in May 2021 by Janus/Criterion, thus making history as the first Nigerian film to be a part of the prestigious and world-renowned Criterion Collection. After its first theatrical show in New York City, the film will feature in other cities, such as Washington DC, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Maryland and other venues to be found here: www.eyimofemovie.com.”
