The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II has commissioned the newly established Gombe State University during the State Governor’s last official function before handing over power to his successor.
Commissioning the University which got its licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2017, the Ooni appreciated the passion of Governor Dankwambo in the area of education and wider learning.
While promising to work with the university, the Ooni prayed that the administrators of the institution will run the university for the good of the State, the North and Nigeria as whole.
According to him, Dankwambo has given life to people of Kumo, Gombe State and Nigeria by establishing the university stressing that “he who gives you education, gives you life”.
Speaking earlier, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo who was performing his last function as Governor, said the administration conceived the idea of establishing the university because the Gombe State University (GSU) could not accommodate the rising demand for university education among many other reasons.
He described the university as an investment for the future which is worth his time and sacrifice to ensure that it serves the purpose for which it was established.
Outgoing Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Isa Mohammed Wade said the University will provide opportunities for the younger generation as well as serve as a compass and focus that will enhance the development of the State. He said the university is the first of it’s kind in the Northeast and third in the entire North.
Vices Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullahi Mahdi, said his ambition is to surpass the achievements he recorded when he was Vice Chancellor in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and that as the pioneer VC at the Gombe State University.
