Peter Obi meets with British High Commissioner to Nigeria

Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has held a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery.
Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, said they “had a thoughtful discussion on the state of our democracy, the economy, the importance of strengthening our institutions, and the need to ensure that our elections remain free, fair, credible, and truly reflective of the will of the Nigerian people.”
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Mr. Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, said he thanked Dr Montgomery, who is concluding his diplomatic assignment in Nigeria next month, “for his service and for the role he has played in strengthening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”
Obi said further that the Envoy’s time in Nigeria has been marked by constructive engagement and support for the country’s democratic and economic development.
He wished the departing High Commissioner well as he prepares to proceed on his next assignment, thanked him “for the friendship and cooperation he has extended to Nigeria throughout his tenure,” and said he looks forward to seeing the strong relationship between the two countries continue to grow.”
