Prison Walls of Gold (Poem) By Abraham E. Nwankwo

PRISON WALLS OF GOLD

By

Abraham E. Nwankwo

Poverty and marginalisation widespread,

Crimes and violent robbery cause.

And the rich respond in fear,

To the insecurity that ensues,

By surrounding their palaces of gold,

With walls that are mountain high.

Thus unwittingly they plead guilty

By imprisoning themselves by choice.

Away they themselves shut,

From a clear view of the world.

Depriving the palace inhabitants,

Of free flowing air from God.

Greatly reducing the size,

Of the world they touch.

Even if the walls are also

Decorated with silver and gold,

They remain prison walls of shame.

Separating the enclosed from natural liberty.
