Okorocha was received by former Imo state Governor Hon. Emeka Ihedioha at an event witnessed by his followers and PDP faithful in Imo state.
Okorocha, who is currently representing the people of Imo West Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate vowed to mobilize votes and support for the PDP Presidential Candidate for the 2023 elections Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other candidates of the party.
Okorocha is no stranger in the PDP, the former Imo state Governor was one of the founding members of the party following the return of democracy in 1999.
Okorocha contested the 1999 PDP Governoship primaries and lost to Achike Udenwa who eventually won the polls and was sworn into office as Governor.
By 2003, Okorocha switched political association to the All Nigeria Peoples Party – ANPP where he contested the presidential primaries without success.
That defeat led to his return to the PDP same year. By 2005, he formed the Action Alliance – AA to contest the office of President in 2007.
That too did not yield success so he returned for a third stint in the PDP.
Following a 2019 conflict with then Governor Ikedi Ohakim over control of party structure in Imo state, Okorocha dumped the PDP for APGA from where he contested and won the 2011 Governorship election.
In March 2013, Okorocha decamped from APGA to APC where he has spent his longest run in a single political party over the last nine years.
His decision to dump the APC for the PDP is his fourth spell as a member of the main opposition party in Imo state and Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Okorocha’s decision to decamp to the PDP is linked to Atiku Abubakar’s promise to support Igbo Presidency at the end of his tenure if elected President this year.
