Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, has provided 30,000 bags of rice, 60,000 tubers of yam and 25,000 cartons of noodles for the people of her constituency.
The food items are provided as palliatives for the needy to cushion the effects of the hardship brought about by the coronavirus pandemic otherwise known as COVID-19.
In the first phase of the programme, she had provided 45,000 face masks and gloves to protect her constituents from being infected by the dreaded virus.
According to a statement by Ezennia Nonso Chukwudebe, Director, Media/Publicity for the former Minister of Aviation, the first action the Senator took when the global health crisis started was to convene an online meeting on how best to ameliorate the hardship brought upon the least advantaged members of her constituency by the lockdown imposed by the federal and state governments to check the spread of the virus.
The meetings, he said, agreed to use the Churches to reach the targeted group, hence leaders of the three denominations – Catholic, Anglican and Pentecostal – were asked to send in names, 15 of which must be names of widows.
It as also the consensus that beyond the church route, there was need to also accommodate other pivotal groups like the Senator’s Community Excos/Directors, Motherless babies homes, PDP wards and the various communities in all the seven LGAs in the senatorial zone.
Specific dates and times were therefore set aside when the different groups would congregate at different locations to receive their share of the palliative items.
The process, the statement said further, has already commenced and from the different centers, the joyful recipients, who testified in video clips that the Senator had even before the present crisis been in the habit of giving out different welfare items to them, and the clergymen who were present, said ceaseless prayers for her wellbeing and her promotion to higher heights and offices.
Chukwudebe’s statement, which regretted that it would be practically impossible to accommodate everyone in the constituency, stressed that the Senator does not imagine that the items would solve all the problems of the people but hopes and prays that they would at least serve as cushion against the hardship brought about by the pandemic.
He assured that Senator Oduah has put everything in place to ensure a seamless, impactful and rancour free exercise and asked everyone to exercise patience.
He equally pointed out that the team put together by Princess Oduah to midwife the process had not been disbanded but are monitoring the situation with a view to putting forward more solutions guaranteed to ameliorate the plight of the people of the senatorial district.
