Sokoto State House of Assembly has postponed the screening of Commissioner-nominees until October.20.

Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad, the Assembly’s Director of Legal Services, who made the disclosure, Thursday, in Sokoto, said the move became necessary as the government had declared October 15 public holiday to mark the 1st day of Muharram 1437 AH.

“As the legislature is an arm of government responsible for making laws for good governance and order, it should be the number one body to respect those laws.

“Based on the provision of the law and a judgment by Supreme Court, the state legislature can sit on any day that falls between Mondays and Saturdays, but not on Sundays and public holidays.

“When the attention of the leadership of the legislature was drawn to the relevant provision of the law, it decided to call off the screening,’’ Muhammad said.

The Assembly on Wednesday screened and confirmed 11 out of the 23 Commissioner- nominees whose names were sent to it by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal.
