Enugu State Government has warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) against rejection of Corps Members posted to their offices and warned that government would henceforth view such cases with “seriousness”.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2015 batch ‘B’ orientation course at the NYSC orientation camp Awgu, the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Cecelia Ezeilo, reminded heads of the MDAs that government policy against rejection of corps members was still in force.
The state’s Chief Executive assured the corps members of their safety in any part of the state they were posted to serve, adding that exceptional persons during the service year would be recognized and honoured while those that performed below expectations would be punished accordingly.
He enjoined them to promote unity and integration among the diverse nationalities which is the major objectives of the scheme.
Governor Ugwuanyi also informed the corps members that his administration has adopted the policy of engaging a greater percentage of them in the education sector with a view to providing solid base upon which its development agenda could be realized, and implored them to accept their posting in good faith and regard it as a call to duty in service of their father land.
He assured that the state government would continue to provide an enabling environment for them to discharge their responsibilities, adding that their state allowances will be paid as at when due.
Earlier in an address, the state NYSC director, Mrs. Nwano Eze Ukagha urged the corps members to allow their remarkable conducts dictate their affairs throughout their service year and beyond.
She added that the state NYSC and the government of the state have placed mechanisms for rewarding those of them who distinguished themselves during the service year. She urged them to continue with their post camp skills acquisition training to adequately prepare them for self employment after the service year.
The coordinator disclosed that a corps member passed on during the orientation period.
He commended the state government for her assistance to the state NYSC urging the governor to facilitate completion of the 500 bed female hostel.
