President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his passing as a significant loss to the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood and Nigeria’s creative community.
Tinubu, in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, condoled with Hassan’s family, colleagues, friends and admirers.
The President described the late actor as a distinguished artiste whose decades-long career contributed to the development of Yoruba theatre and Nigerian cinema.
He also commended Hassan’s distinctive acting style, screen presence and efforts to promote Yoruba culture through his work.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was a gifted artiste who used his talent to tell Nigerian stories, preserve our cultural heritage and entertain audiences at home and abroad,” Tinubu said.
The President said Hassan’s death was a loss not only to his family but also to the wider Yoruba film industry and the Nigerian creative sector.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood, and the entire Nigerian creative community,” he said.
Tinubu, on behalf of the Federal Government, extended his condolences to the late actor’s family, colleagues, friends and fans.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Hassan eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
Hassan died on Sunday after battling stage-four cancer.
He was buried on Monday in Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.
