Troubled Haiti in focus as PFPAD4 ends in New York, USA

The 4th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent will end today with the embattled country, Haiti, as the main focus.
The closing event, on “Haiti’s Independence Debt: 200 years later,” will take place today, Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 15:00 to 16:30, before the reading of the conclusions and recommendations of the session.
The new Chairman of PFPAD, Ambassador Martin Kimani, will be the Moderator, will the speakers will be Bob Rae, the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Pierre Ericq Pierre, Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations, Gaynel Curry, Deputy Chairperson, PFPAD and Verene Albertha Shepherd, Vice-Chair, UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The event, according to the organizers, “will be the opportunity to discuss the roots of Haiti’s current crisis, raise awareness on Haiti’s deep historical connections to the struggles of people of African descent, present the various Haiti advocacy efforts and coordinate their inclusion in the Second International Decade for People of African Descent.”
