United States of America (USA) President, Joe Biden, has tested positive to COVID-19 while on a campaign trip to Las Vegas, leading to his cancellation of his scheduled speaking opportunity at a Conference.
The result of the test was announced by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who said the President would be self-isolating but would continue to carry out his duties fully during the time of self-isolation.
The statement, according to reports, said: “Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for Covid-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms.
“He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”
The President’s doctor is said to have added that he he had experienced a “runny nose, a cough and general malaise.”
Biden, 81, the Democratic Party presidential nominee, is going into isolation at his home in Rehoboth, Delaware and will continue to be monitored by his Doctors.
The positive COVID-19 test result is coming against a backdrop of calls for Biden to drop out of the presidential race following his generally rated poor performance in his recent debate with ex-president Donald Trump.
Biden has continued to insist that he is well enough to contest for a second term in office, insisting that he beat Trump before and will beat him again.
