The Dodge Durango comes with an eight speed automatic transmission powered by a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine or an available 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine to give the car the iconic characteristics of a Dodge muscle car. The Engine Stop/Start (ESS) technology is now standard for all models; it helps to improve fuel efficiency by shutting off the engine when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Amenities (radio, gauges, heating or air conditioning, etc.) continue to operate, making engine shutoff seamless for the driver as the ESS is activated automatically although a system disable switch is located on the dash if the operator wishes to suspend the feature. The engine automatically restarts when the driver releases the brake, thus, allowing smooth acceleration.
