Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has described the death of literary icon, Captain Elechi Amadi as a monumental loss, and that he has left very big shoes that will be difficult to fill.
Amaechi, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, also described Late Captain Elechi Amadi as a Colossus, a great man in the literary field who contributed immensely to the growth and development of Rivers state.
In a statement released by his media office Thursday, Amaechi described the late Ikwerre son as a man with sterling reputation and integrity.
“I was shocked and broke down when I got the sad news of the death of one of our great minds, one of our very best, Captain Elechi Amadi. He was particularly close to me. His death has left a huge vacuum. The Late Captain, was a literary guru, he stood tall and contributed to the growth and development of Rivers State. His death is a monumental loss to the Ikwerre people, Rivers people, Nigeria and the literary community.”
“The late Captain Amadi served Rivers State as Chairman of the State Scholarship Board during my time as governor. He was transparent, thorough and effective in the discharge of this duty. He was a very gentle, calm and honest man. He was our father and indeed a symbol of a good father.”
“For me, this is a personal loss. I sympathize with his immediate and extended family on the very painful demise of the Late Captain Elechi Amadi,” the statement concluded.
