Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has charged the newly posted State Police Commissioner, Peter Ogunyawo, to spare no effort in ensuring that the killers of the paramount ruler of Bokkos, the Saf Ron, Lazarus Agai, are apprehended and brought to justice.
The late Agai was killed some weeks ago alongside some of his aides and family members while returning from his farm by yet to be identified assailants.
Lalong gave the charge while playing host to the Police Commissioner and other top officers of the state police command who paid him a courtesy visit at his official residence Friday in Jos.
According to the Governor, his optimism that the new CP will arrest the culprits is informed by the police boss’ rich and intimidating CV which was read before him by the state police PRO.
Lalong pledged to give the greatest support and cooperation of the state government to the police in the discharge of their duty of providing peace and security in the state.
Responding, the CP said his posting to the state which was unexpected was a homecoming to him, having served in the state as a youth corps member at the NYSC HQ, and also as a police officer in the past.
The Commissioner thanked the governor for the hospitality accorded him and his family so far, adding that all the problems have solutions through fervent prayers, trust and community cooperation.
“We cannot succeed without fear of God and earning the people’s trust in community policing,” he said.
The new CP also announced the arrest in far away Lagos of members of a 5-man armed robbery gang which robbed Super Eagles’ star, Ogenyi Onazi’s house in Jos just a few days ago and carted away many valuables including a Toyota Highlander Jeep.
The new CP had prior to his posting served as Bayelsa Police Commissioner and Commander Presidential Escort for 3 Nigerian presidents. He also served in all 6 geopolitical zones in country.
