South-South Peoples Assembly, (SSPA), has petitioned against the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, (PAP) Professor Charles Dokubo to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), over alleged nonpayment of contractors.
According to SSPA, the present leadership of the PAP “has created omnious signs of derailment that is threatening the fragile peace and order in the Niger Delta region.
“This is on account of alleged mismanagement, unbridled greed and corruption.
Addressing newsmen in Yenagoa, the National Secretary of SSPA, Dr Ayakeme Whiskey, said that the group was not just making frivolous allegations but substantiated claims.
Whiskey noted that the allegations were based on innumerable reports received from vendors and contractors who were awarded contracts since 2018 who have remained unpaid.
“As a responsible organisation, our concern is the future of the Amnesty Programme and the relative peace presently pervading the Niger Delta region with the attendant effects on the economy.
“When potential trainee-delegates are frustrated consistently due to the non-mobilization of contractors and vendors who should sign them on for training, and stipends of those already enlisted are not regularly paid on account of grave financial malfeasance, this is putting the peace in the region at risk.
“Our opinion is premised on the innumerable reports we have been receiving from most vendors and contractors who were awarded contracts since May 2018 but have remained unpaid after committing these vendors and contractors to supply insurance bonds at cost.
” And later Advance Payment Guarantees, APG, from banks at even higher costs.” Ayakeme said.
Mr Murphy Agagaga, Head of Media at the PAP declined to comment on the allegations.
