Bose Ogulu, mother of Afrobeats singer Burna Boy, has explained her son’s personality, saying people should make allowances for his behaviour because his outspoken nature is also part of what makes him unique.
Ogulu made the remarks during an appearance on Channels TV hosted by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
She said there was a noticeable difference between her social media posts and those of the Grammy-winning singer, stressing that Burna Boy’s personality could not be separated from the qualities that endeared him to his fans.
“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets,” Ogulu said.
She likened the singer to a tapestry, explaining that attempting to change one aspect of his personality could affect other qualities that define him.
“What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel,” she said.
Ogulu added that people had to accept the singer’s individuality, particularly because the same emotions behind some of his controversial moments also contributed to his appeal as an artiste.
“So you must make allowances for this person being himself, because it’s the same emotion that what you love about him comes from,” she said.
She also disclosed that she sometimes intervenes when her son becomes particularly outspoken during Instagram Live sessions.
“Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live,” Ogulu said.
Her comments provide insight into how she manages her role as Burna Boy’s mother while dealing with the singer’s outspoken personality and activities on social media.
