Veteran entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has explained why he strongly supports former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
While speaking on the KAA PODCAST, Charly Boy said Obi’s message and personal discipline convinced him that the former governor is the right person to lead Nigeria.
“I’ve fallen in love with his message. The things he says, the words that come out of his mouth, are awesome,” he said. “I’ve read up about him and his history as the former governor of Anambra State; it’s all very awesome.”
He added that he has studied Obi closely and believes in his vision for the country. “I’m ready to die with Peter Obi, because in him I see light. In him, I see the vision he always talks about. If we give him a chance, he will do something,” he said.
Charly Boy also reacted to Obi’s promise to serve only one term if elected, saying the former governor should focus on building a strong movement and mobilising young Nigerians. He criticised Nigeria’s political class, saying many leaders have failed the people.
“All the people in leadership positions come from the same club. They are anyhow people, scumbags, thieves, rogues in agbada. I have not one atom of respect for those people,” he said.
The veteran singer dismissed claims that he supports Obi because of ethnicity. He said competence and results matter more than background.
“I don’t care if a goat is a leader, as long as that goat is doing the right thing for the people. Leadership means the people, not about your self,” he said.
He also spoke about his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying they share a similar vision for Nigeria. “What holds my friendship with Obasanjo together is that we believe in the same thing: the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.
Charly Boy also criticised the current administration and questioned the value of votes in Nigeria, calling for better leadership and accountability.
