Enyimba finally recorded their first win of the EUROMATCH-NPFL season after beating Shooting Stars 4-2 in a rearranged fixture on Wednesday.
The nine-time league champions started the game on the front foot and took the lead after just seven minutes.
Richard Ezinna finished the move after Enyimba won the ball high up the pitch, giving the home side an early advantage.
Enyimba continued to put pressure on Shooting Stars and doubled their lead in the 29th minute through Damian Chibueze Ezeifule, who scored from distance.
Idris Abubakar then made it 3-0 nine minutes before half-time as Enyimba took a commanding lead into the break.
The Aba side continued where they stopped after the restart and scored their fourth goal just four minutes into the second half.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele completed the move after receiving a pass from Wonah William to put Enyimba 4-0 ahead.
Shooting Stars responded with two late goals after coach Salisu Yusuf made changes to his team.
Mustapha Adams Agba’a scored in the 76th minute, while Johnmark Aule added a second goal for the visitors in stoppage time.
The comeback, however, was not enough as Enyimba held on for a 4-2 victory and their first three points of the season.
For Yusuf, the result made his return to Aba a difficult one, having previously worked as a coach at Enyimba.
Rangers Go Top
Rangers International moved to the top of the EUROMATCH-NPFL table after securing a 1-0 away win over Warri Wolves at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro.
Godwin Obaje scored from the penalty spot in the first half to give the defending champions the victory.
Rivers United stayed in second place after playing out a 1-1 draw with Katsina United.
The two goals came within three minutes of each other early in the second half. Samson Olasupo put Rivers United ahead in the 47th minute before Sani Mubarak equalised three minutes later.
In the Lagos derby, Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City played out a 0-0 draw.
