The Federal Government has greenlit a substantial salary hike for civil servants across various sectors, with increases ranging from 25 per cent to 35 per cent on six Consolidated Salary Structures. Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), disclosed this during a briefing in Abuja.
The approved increments apply to key salary structures including Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
Scheduled to take effect from January 1, this move signifies a significant stride towards enhancing the welfare of civil servants. Additionally, the Federal Government has sanctioned pension increases ranging from 20 per cent to 28 per cent for pensioners enrolled in the Defined Benefits Scheme under the same consolidated salary structures, with commencement also set for January 1st.
Emphasising the alignment of these actions with constitutional provisions, particularly Section 173(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Njoku underscored the government’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional mandates and ensuring the well-being of its workforce.
Prior to this development, adjustments in salary had already been implemented for professionals in the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors, encompassing structures such as Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
